Phanom Rung historical park or phnomrung is situated
in Chalermphrakiat district, Buriram. Far from
Nangrong 28 km. Fine Arts Department declared
it as a national historical site in the government
gazette no.52, chapter 75, on 8 March 1935. In
the past, the extinct volcano, Phanom Rung had
turned to a source of plenty water for consuming
through the year for many people and a group of
people who went up there to do the great construction.

Prasat
hin Phanomrung is a Hindu religious place dedicated
to Shiva. Most constructions were built in the16-18
Buddhist era, it was contemporary with Prasat
Nakorn wat (Angkor) which was built by King
Suryavarman 2 of Khmer in the 17th Buddhist
era. That was a religious place dedicated to
Vishnu or Narayana. Since Shiva live on his
heavenly dwelling, Mount Kailash, it was necessary
to find the perfect location to build the great
construction in order to be a dwelling of the
god, sybolised Mount Kailash. Prasat Phanom
Rung was set on the rim of an extinct volcano.
That was believed the nearest way to haven.
It is located at the south of the volcano and
heads to the east to receive the ray of the
sun, which means the fortunate beginning and
the great power.

Thap Lang Narai Banthomsilp
Thap Lang Narai Banthomsilp refers
to Narayana, one of Hindu gods. Narayana is
sleeping on Anantanagaraj (Mythical Hindu
creature) in the milk sea with Lakshmi Devi
who is the goddess of beauty and his queen
serving him in order that he would sleep peacefully
until he wake up to end the eternity and Brahma,
the god, would create the earth and the whole
buildings, then began the new eternity. Narayana
would turn to his long sleep again.

Walkingway To Phanomrung
The walkway
leads to the first of three Naga bridges. It
is borded by seventy sandstone posts with top
of lotus buds, which had been called Nangriang
posts. This is a pathway to the sanctuary. The
ancient Khmer called Nangcharan posts. If you
put a compass upon it, you will see that the
walkway is correctly laid on the East and the
west spindle. |

Attribute to the brilliant intellectual design
and construction of Phanom Rung, according to
the astronomic, consequently, there are the astonishing
spectacular phenomena that Prasat Phanom Rung
allows the ray of the sun to penetrate the 15
doorway of the sanctuary. These phenomena can
be observed 4 times a year; the 2 sunrises and
the 2 sunsets.

sunsets on 5-7 March: 6.15-6.22 p.m at Phanomrung
2nd, sunrises on 3-5 April: 6.05-6.12 a.m at Phanomrung
3rd,
sunrises on 5-7 September: 6.00-6.07 a.m at Phanomrung
4th,
sunsets on 5-7 October: 5.50-5.57 p.m at Phanomrung

phenomena will occur in this same period of time
every year. However, it sometimes invisible amid
